 Sealathane RotoCast Resin
Rotational Molding of Polyurethane Structures

Sealathane RotoCast Resin Grade was developed to facilitate the rotational molding of large and complex parts using a polyurethane resin. Due to the long pot life of the Sealathane RotoCast system, the mixed resin may be degassed to evacuate air from the system prior to pouring into the rotational mold, thus minimizing air entrapment in the final part. The mixed resin system is pourable at room temperature and will cure rapidly once it sees temperatures above 250oF.

The Sealathane RotoCast system was utilized to rotomold large complex structures to provide more resiliency and cracking resistance than standard plastic. The large structures weighed as much as 230 pounds while the small structures weighted between 25 and 50 pounds. The large tanks measure 10 feet by 8 feet by 2 feet. Sealathane provides complete coverage of the mold.. No other polyurethane system has the ability to make such a large structure in this type of molding process.

The Sealathane Rotocast Resin system was also used to mass produce a number of containers fitted with a spout measuring 11 inches high with a 7.25 inch diameter. The use of Sealathane allowed the manufacturer to produce containers that were much more durable than typical plastic containers and lower in cost and weight than metal containers. The long pot life and low exotherm of the Sealathane RotoCast system allowed the end user to mix large batches of material and rotomold 10 containers at a time.

Sealatane may also be used with fabric reinforcements to provide a stronger overall structure.  The manufacturer of the container required the containers to be more puncture and tear resistant, and they were able to use a Kevlar reinforcement to meet the objective.  The rotational mold was lined with Kevlar fabric and the Sealathane was poured into the mold and allowed to penetrate the fabric during the rotation molding process.  Upon curing the container exhibited higher strength and provided resistance to both punctures and tears.
